Back in Denver

I'm back in Denver, and it's great to be back with my family once again. The 10-day weather forecast for Denver looks really good, but I spent enough springtime in Colorado to know that you can't trust weather forecasts. No matter how warm it looks, I always have a coat with me, no matter where I go and no matter what time of year.

I've gotten behind in posting relevant pictures of my travels, especially after my weak Wi-Fi signal yesterday, where I couldn't get a single picture to go through to my blog. Fortunately for me, my blog posts have nothing to do with the pictures I post, so I'm gonna step back to Storrie Lake State Park and show some pictures I took while I was there, and hopefully get my pictures caught up to present times in a couple of days.

I'm one of those odd people who enjoys customizing my RV. When I'm doing it, I realize I'm going to be sorry one day that I changed everything, but I can't help myself. I've just got to make my RV "better. "

Better means different things to different people, but to me, it means making it more suitable for boondocking. So, I'm compelled to install solar panels, more batteries, or insulation to make it more comfortable while living in the sticks.

But eventually, I will have to sell a highly modified RV, and all of those modifications I made make it difficult to sell because now it fits only me and my lifestyle.

But that's the price of customizing anything. The factories do a pretty good job of creating an RV that appeals to a lot of different people, which makes it very easy to sell, but by the time I finish with it, nobody wants it but me, and when I no longer want it, it's like an ugly puppy at the pound. It just sits there until it's an ugly dog.

It was a cloudy, rainy day at Storrie Lake State Park, and I only had one day to be there, so it never got any better.

White camper van with matching dog. I don’t think I could deal with a van I couldn’t stand up in. I did it when I was much younger, but no more.

This exceedingly rare New Mexican Banded Puffin is a master of disguise, and you're very fortunate that my bird identification abilities have reached a point where I can spot and identify most of our feathered friends, including ones pretending to be something they're not.

What in the world is this? It's sitting next to Storrie Lake, and I was a couple hundred yards away, so I didn't get a very good picture. But what I see appears to be a teardrop camper covered with a white sheet, and something sitting beside it that defies description. I only see one lawn chair and one electric bicycle, indicating only one person is camping here. It's not shown in the picture, but a compact car sits 20 or 30 feet away. The whole thing was off by itself, and I was the closest camper to it, probably 200 yards away.

I don't know what it is, and I couldn't even guess. Why am I always seeing weird things while camping? It could be because I always boondock, and only weird people boondock….wait a minute, that doesn’t sound too good !
