Pete’s

It's still hot, with more hotness in the future. I look at the 10-day weather forecast for "Pete's", and it looks wonderful. Low 80s in the daytime, mid-50s at night; it looks like the perfect place to relax and forget whatever problems I may have.

I always feel relaxed and contented at Pete's no matter what the weather may be, probably because of all the enjoyable times I've had out there. There's something about being surrounded by mountains, hearing the wind in the trees, watching the sun set over the high country, and just being close to nature without the sound of traffic and the sight of houses in every direction.

And did I mention the people? I guess not, because there aren't any. I can stay at Pete's for a week and never see another human being. Of course, that's not all that odd for a boondocker, that happens to me fairly often when I'm boondocking in the Arizona desert, but for being in Colorado and living in the suburbs, not being around people is a rare thing, especially in the summertime when I'm normally here; these mountains can get pretty crowded with flatlanders looking for places to avoid the crowds, seemingly not realizing that their the crowds.

So I need to get up to Pete's, someday soon. It's been a while since I've heard a coyote howl, or an Elk bellow, or taken a picture of the Milky Way from a truly dark sky. But I can hear the mountains calling. Not with my poor ears that limit what I can hear, but with my heart and my mind, the mountains whisper to me, and I am compelled to answer.

A pretty sunset somewhere. Living as a full-timer, I get to see so many beautiful sunsets. Sometimes I forget where they are.
