September. ~ 4 comments
With September here already, it's something I've been looking forward to and dreading all at the same time. First, the things I'm looking forward to
1...I am looking forward to my grandson's birthday. It's actually one day after mine. I wish I was but one day older than him, but that is not to be.
2... I'm looking forward to Fall, my favorite time of year. The leaves will be changing colors. The daytime temperatures will be mild, and the nighttime temperatures will be a mite chilly, or what I call good sleeping weather.
Things I'm not looking forward to in September.
1... I have a VA doctor's appointment for my annual checkup near the middle of September. I always dread going to doctors, especially when I don't feel sick; it seems they can always find something wrong with you even if you're feeling fine.
2... Here it is September, and I still haven't taken a mini-vacation. Don't know exactly why, except I have appointments and responsibilities scattered throughout the month that make it difficult to head for God's country for a week or more without worrying about something. Oh well, maybe next month.
3... My truck needs an oil change and a new fuel filter, and September was normally when I would do those things. I used to do it myself, but now I have to pay somebody to do it, which just reminds me about how geezerly I'm getting.
Things that are both good and bad happening in September.
1... I have to get my driver's license renewed. I know that's a minor thing for most folks, but I've had bad luck with the DMV; it seems like nothing ever works out the way it should, and the people that work there appear to me to be born annoyed, disgruntled, and irked, and take out their gruntledness on everyone that walks in the door.
2...And then there's my birthday, a mixed blessing if there ever was one. Of course I'm happy to be alive for another year; that's a plus. But I'm going to be 80, and that's a minus. I'm no longer late middle-aged; I'm just plain old. And I can tell I'm not going to be the happy-go-lucky old geezer thrilled to meet his maker; I think I'm going to be the grouchy and irritated geezer, yelling at everyone to get off my desert.
So there it is, September in a nutshell.... The best of times, the worst of times, but at least I've still got times, and I'm thankful for that.

My boondocking spot 3 miles outside of Wickenburg, Arizona. I love Wickenburg. The only thing the town needs to be perfect is a Walmart.
