Totally underestimating the Department of Motor Vehicles ability to make my life difficult, I have been surprised yet again by how long it takes to get an appointment to renew my driver’s license, but for future reference, it takes almost as long as it does to get an appointment with a VA doctor.
Three weeks and three days- that's what it took to get an appointment with the DMV to renew my license. Now it's bad enough that I have to wait that long, but the worst part is my license is going to expire this month, which means I'll have to live without a driver's license for over two weeks.
I got my first driver's license when I was 13 years old, in South Carolina. This allowed me to legally drive a scooter with under 5 horsepower on the road. So this will be the first time in all those years that I won't have a driver's license from somewhere, at some time...Thank you, Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.
You may wonder why I didn't do the dirty deed on the internet as normal people do. The reason is that if your old license photo is 10 years old or older, Colorado requires you to come to the office to have a new photo taken. And that one requirement has caused me all kinds of trouble, and they're not over yet....I have a VA doctor's appointment for a check-up scheduled for the time my driver's license will have expired. And I don't know how I'm going to get there. By the way, it took three months to get that appointment, but it's free, so I can't complain.
