No more appointments !!!

Today's high was 50°, and it was rainy, making things pretty miserable. Which meant that I had to drive the twenty-something miles to Golden, Colorado, to the VA clinic to be fitted with my hearing aids on a miserable morning, weather-wise. I know that sounds like a small complaint, but I'm not used to driving in the rain. Colorado is very arid, and it doesn't rain very often. When it does, it's usually just a light sprinkle, and since I can mostly come and go as I please, I don't have to go anywhere if the weather isn't perfect. But today, since I had an appointment, I actually had to drive in the rain.

So, what about my hearing aids? What did I end up with? And can I actually hear now? First of all, I didn't end up with an ear trumpet as I had hoped. I know you're just as disappointed as I am, but when your medical treatment is free, you get what they got, or you get nothing at all.

There's definitely going to be some getting used to, but it doesn't look like anything I can't handle. They're very tiny; I'll get some pictures of them in my blog tomorrow. I can hear all kinds of sounds around me that I never knew were there, and a good example is my truck's turn signals; for the first time in a long time, I can actually hear them clicking.

I don't think I'll wear them very often since I think I'm hearing too much, but I’ll use them a lot in the summertime when I'm living around my family. But in the winter, I'm seldom around anyone unless I'm grocery shopping, and I won't need them then. I just hope they're comfortable, so wearing them for long periods isn't a chore I dread.

It feels so good to not have any more appointments. I've accomplished everything I wanted this summer, so now I'm free to head south and focus on taking pictures instead of visiting doctors. And speaking of doctors, I also got my flu shot at the VA clinic this morning.
