Any mosquitoes? 2 comments
I don't believe I've mentioned yet that I haven't seen a single mosquito since I got to Pete's. You may recall that a year or two ago, the mosquitoes were so bad that I only came out here once, during the entire summer, and that was once too many. And yes, the high winds would keep the mosquitoes away, but since the winds aren't blowing early in the morning and late in the afternoon, that's when I'm outside, and that's when mosquitoes are normally at their worst, but like I said, I haven't even seen one.
That is an inexplicable conundrum. And in the decades I've owned this property, the mosquitoes were never a problem in the past, a minor annoyance, yes, but not a problem. And then all of a sudden, one summer, there were horrendous clouds of mosquitoes, and now I'm back to no mosquitoes. It must have something to do with water, since mosquitoes breed in water, but in the 30-something years I've been coming here, only once has the water situation changed?.... As I said, it's an inexplicable conundrum within a puzzle, twisted around a mystery.
Looking outside, I had an urge to climb a hill, but luckily my procrastination jumped in and said.... "WHOA! Wait just a minute, there's no sense climbing a hill today, that hill will still be there tomorrow, just take a gander at this latest cat video that just popped up." I'm glad I've got enough procrastination to stop me from doing anything stupid, at least until tomorrow.

I'm boondocked at the North End of my property, which is where I usually stay. I put out my portable solar panels, though I didn’t need them. You can see how sunny the sky is. I'm just testing them to see how well they work, before I actually need them.
These Bighorn Sheep were about 100 yards away from me, and you don't often see them out in open areas like this. Maybe they were heading for Eleven Mile Reservoir for a drink of water. This little herd is really scruffy-looking, with their part-winter, part-summer coat. I didn't see any males in the herd.
Of all the things in life that irk me, I find that the government tagging wild animals to be the most irksome of all, and I'm not easily irked.
Animals have been tagged since Ornithologist John Audubon tied a string. around a bird's leg to figure out where the bird was going, that was in 1803, and it has gotten worse ever since.
When I was younger and a hunter, I saw a lot of animals tagged by the government, and it annoyed me no end to be out in the wilderness and see a beautiful wild animal with a government collar on its neck. It made me angry every time I saw it.
And it's not just the abuse of the animal for the rest of its life, it’s the fact that the government spends untold millions of taxpayer dollars tracking where the Elk go every year, but letting millions of illegal aliens wander about the country and have no idea where they are.
Since they've been tagging wild animals way before I was born, what the heck do they think they're going to find out about their life that they don’t know already? It seems to me it's just a waste of money and a way to hire more government employees. Just to remind you that American citizens don't own these animals, the government does, and they will tell you when and how you can interact with them now that you have paid hundreds of dollars for a hunting license.
