My cataract operation is tomorrow
Well, here it is, the day before my cataract operation, or as the doctors like to call it, "a procedure. " I don't know the difference between an operation and a procedure, but to me anytime there's a sharp instrument in a doctor's hand.... It's an operation.
Now I seriously doubt if this is as serious an operation as the first heart transplant folks had when a pig’s heart was transferred from the pig into someone's chest. Still, to me, it feels pretty serious since it involves my largely defective eyeballs. And I can say that because I've been wearing glasses since I was 13, my eyes are very important to me.
From what I've read on the Internet, I may be one of the few people left in America who haven't had a cataract operation yet. So far, instead of getting sympathy for my problem, all I'm getting is suggestions to "man up !" and "stop being such a wuss !" However, I've become increasingly attached to my eyes over the years and use them almost every day; in fact, I rely on my eyes far more than I do on my brain, as anyone who reads my blog can attest.
So, I'm not expecting miracles tomorrow, but I'm told I will see better than I do today, which is not saying much, since I doubt I could pass an eye exam to renew my driver’s license at the moment. So I've got my fingers crossed, and my eyes crossed that I will be able to see enough to write my blog tomorrow and let everyone know how things worked out. Like I said, I'm not expecting miracles, but since it’s the VA messing around with my eyes, it might take a miracle.
