Procrastination? or a change of plans?
I had planned on going into town today and getting a few useful things accomplished, but the longer I sat here thinking about it, the less that plan interested me, and the more I felt like putting it off until tomorrow. Some people might think that's procrastination on my part, but I like to think of it as another reason not to make plans. After all, if I stopped making plans, I would no longer have a procrastination problem.
Well, it looks like Thanksgiving is not that far away, especially considering that I need to be hunkered down somewhere around the 24th or 25th of November to make sure I've got a place to stay for the holiday, so technically I've only got a week to figure out where I want to be, and get there.
It looks like wherever I spend the Thanksgiving holidays will be the last New Mexico state Park I stay in. And where I would normally go from Elephant Butte would be City of Rocks State Park, and then Rockhound State Park. It appears that the most sensible option is to stay at the Elephant for a few more days, and then head to either City of Rocks or Rockhound, making one of them my last visit to a New Mexico state park.
I enjoy spending time at both places, and each has its pluses and minuses. For instance, Rockhound has a nearby Walmart, but the City of Rocks offers more activities I enjoy. City of Rocks has a handful of first-come, first-served boondocking sites that I can almost always get into, but Rockhound has a nearby Walmart….. Having a nearby Walmart is very important to a poor boondocker. Walmart offers not only food to eat, but also a place to stay overnight.

the large black wire lying in the foreground supplies the electricity for the marina. It goes underwater, and it has to do so because, as the water level in the reservoir rises and falls, so does the marina…. That's right, the entire marina floats on the water.
There were a few clouds the other night.
I took this picture from up on Ridge Road, where I used to boondock most of the time. However, this morning, I was the only one driving on Ridge Road; every campsite was empty.
9 am on a Sunday morning. Judging by the vehicles in the boat trailer parking lot, there aren’t many boaters out there.
