Very few people at the Elephant. ~ 2 comments

I walked down to the marina Saturday morning. It was about 9 o'clock, and there were 11 vehicles with empty boat trailers on the back, and I couldn’t believe there were that few boats out fishing on the Lake. That's hardly anything for a 9 AM Saturday with perfect weather. I don't know what it means, but it sure didn't look like there were many boats on the lake when I was here on past weekends.

I drove up to Ridge Road to see what was going on with the camping, and there wasn't a soul camping on Ridge Road. Ridge Road used to be called primitive camping, and I spent a lot of time boondocking up there, getting pictures overlooking the lake. But now it's been changed to something that's not primitive camping. I don't know what it is, but I didn't see one single person at any of those great camping spots up there that have the best view overlooking the lake.

I think on Monday I'll go into town and take care of some business. I need to fill up a propane tank. There’s an O'Reilly's auto parts in town, I need to talk to them about my truck batteries, they haven't given me any more problems, and I'm not sure why they had a problem to start with. And just down the road from O'Reilly's, there's an optometrist that I will stop and talk to about getting my VA glasses prescription filled. And if that doesn't work, I'm probably going to get them off the Internet.

There is supposed to be a week of cloudy weather coming in starting Monday; hopefully, that will give me some picture-taking opportunities. I do grow weary of day after day of endless blue skies, but my solar panels love it and since their the key to my boondocking success...... When they speak, I listen.

There's a neighborhood overlooking Elephant Butte state Park.

Folks often ask me why I don't point my solar panels at the sun where they collect more sunshine instead of leaving them flat on the roof where they harvest less sun, especially during the winter when the sun is low on the horizon..... And there are several reasons for this.

Reason number one... I'm lazy.

Reason number two... I'm forgetful.

Reason number three... I'm not that smart.
