Back at Pete’s

I'm back at my property near 11 Mile Reservoir, better known as "Pete's", and it feels good to be a little higher than Denver, where the high temperatures for the day are in the 70s instead of the 90s—and nighttime temperatures in the 40s, which I consider perfect sleeping weather.

My goal for this trip is to stay here for an entire week. I don't know if I'll make it, but that's what I'm shooting for. This will be a good test to see if I can boondock on my property for more than a few days, with hardly any civilization around me, no place to go, and hardly anything to do that interests me. So, I guess you could say this is a test of living my normal boondocking life without any nearby towns or easy access to Walmart.

One of the benefits of being able to do this is it saves me money. Unlike most places I've stayed, there's no place to spend any money around here, even if I wanted to.

It’s beautiful country to me, but I’m a country boy at heart, so I’m attracted to places of lonely beauty.

A herd of wild donkeys roams this area. This is all free range, so the donkeys can come and go as they please, so if you don’t want them on your land, it’s up to you to fence them out because the donkeys and other livestock have the right-of-way.

The donkeys are very friendly and will stick their head in the truck begging for food.
