It's cold outside. ~ 4 comments

I crawled out of bed this morning at 6:30, and it was 28° outside. I moseyed down to the lake and noticed it was frozen along the edges, and I could see frost on some of the plants in the area. So yes, it was cold, but the walking was keeping me warm.

Unlike the snow geese at the Bosque Del Apache where everyone comes to see the famous simultaneous "liftoff" at sunrise every morning, the cranes don't do a liftoff, they start just before the sun comes up leaving their nighttime roost, which is the lake, in small and medium-size groups to head for McDonald's to get their breakfast, usually a sausage and Egg McMuffin meal. And since they don't all leave at once, this can go on for an hour or so before most of the birds have left the lake.

Once most of them are gone, and the endless croaking and squawking is over, and the lake returns to silence, I head back to the camper to make my own breakfast, since not even one Crane will bring me back an Egg McMuffin.

Ma, Pa, and the young’un. In the crane world, young ones are called colts …. I don't know why. They don't look like a horse, and you can't ride them.

Coming in for a landing.

They're very graceful in the air. ….walking around on the ground…….. not so much.

No colt in tow.…. They must be newlyweds.
