At a request from Bruce, one of my few readers, this blog post or posts, as the case may be, will be about my new dodo battery... But since I don't know much about my new "dodo" battery, this post will probably expand into related areas and quite possibly into totally unrelated areas.
My new battery is made by a company with the unfortunate name of Redodo, which is actually pronounced Red-o-dee-o, but for the sake of brevity I call the company "dodo," which you can pronounce any way you like.
I've only had this 12-volt, 320 amp battery in my possession for a week or two, so there's not a whole lot I can say about it, especially since one of the most important measurements of a battery is its longevity, so it will be quite a while before I can make a determination on that. But one of the websites that I depend on for information about solar, and all things electronic, is the Will Prowse website, where he tears things like batteries apart and judges them on the quality of the components on the inside, which will give anyone a better idea of how things work than I can.
I chose the dodo battery, like I choose almost everything nowadays, based on how much they cost. I didn't want the cheapest battery on the market, but I couldn't afford the best, so this battery was priced about right and came with some pretty good recommendations on other websites. Other than price, my next most important thing was size. The battery box in my little Lance camper doesn't allow room for large batteries, such as you find in a lot of batteries over 100 amps, but this configuration of battery held over 300 amps and was only slightly bigger than a 100-amp battery. And even though I only bought one, there's still room for two if need be.
Having been born with the ability to write a lot and say little, I find myself running out of pen and paper without ever finishing a coherent sentence, so I will continue this post tomorrow, and possibly forever if I can't think of anything more interesting.
