Hobbies. 2 comments.

I had a very peaceful night's sleep. My only complaints were that it was too cloudy for a nice sunset and that there were no clouds at all this morning for a nice sunrise. Fortunately, there's more to life than sunrises and sunsets.... But not much to someone whose only remaining hobby is taking pictures.

Maybe I need another hobby; I've never tried skydiving, and probably won't since there's not enough room in the camper to pack several parachutes unless, of course, I only get one jump, and then I won't have to worry about how many hobbies I have.

I've never considered boxing as a hobby; since people are always hitting you, and being hit in the face doesn't sound much fun after a while. Although it does fit the fulltimer lifestyle since I would only have to carry boxing gloves and Band-Aids.

I've also never tried bungee jumping, but it seems to have the same problem skydiving does.... Life is full of mistakes, but with some hobbies, you only get one.

Stamp collecting sounds pretty boring. After all, who mails letters anymore? And if someone did mail me a letter, I would be gone before I got it.

As a kid, I enjoyed playing checkers, but that meant being around other people, which spoils the whole boondocker concept. I guess I could play checkers with someone else on the Internet, but identifying what checker moved where sounds kind of complicated.

So it looks like photography is the only hobby that works well for me; it's easy to tote around, you can spend as much or as little money as you want to, and if you take enough pictures sooner or later, you'll find one you like.

It may be hard to believe, but I took this picture from my boondocking spot in the Walmart parking lot in Salida. You don't often get a view like that from a Wal-Mart parking lot. So how in the world would you wake up in the morning, look out your window, and see this and not be happy for the rest of the day?

I'm parked along the far edge of the parking lot. This is what it looks like from the middle of the Walmart parking lot.

One of the mountains in the Collegiate Range, I used to know which was which when I was Elk hunting, but now it's not that important.… As long as the Elk know where they're at.

More mountains in the Collegiate Range. These are near Buena Vista.

these Bigfoot campers ….. Bigfeet. Bigfoot's…Whatever it is, it's one of my favorite truck campers, and if I had the money, this would have been the camper I would have bought. But it does come with some problems…. It's very expensive, it requires a one-ton truck or bigger, and it's very heavy. But it's well-built, and it lasts a long time.
