Future plans.

Another morning getting up before the sun in the off chance of getting a nice sunrise picture. Other than that, I don't need to get up that early because the Petrified Park doesn't open till 8 o'clock, but once I'm up, I have no desire to go back to bed again.

I need to leave here on Saturday morning since my free boondocking will be over and done, and I'm quite sure I will have seen enough of the Petrified National Forest by then. I think I will go back to Holbrook, Arizona, where I came through to get here.

Holbrook is one of those towns that was on Route 66 back in the day and now clings to the memories of its heyday in the 1950s, with old motels and hotels, old gas stations, and restaurants trying to bring in a few tourists who like to see Route 66 as it was.

I think one of the most famous motels on Route 66 was quite possibly the Tee Pee motel, which is in downtown Holbrook, and I think it would be fun to walk around town a little bit and take some pictures. Unfortunately, that's going to be on a Saturday morning, and since people tend to go shopping on Saturday, I'm afraid the town might be busy, making it difficult to find places to park. And as you all may know, I don't like traveling on a weekend, since it's more difficult and expensive to get help if your vehicle breaks down.

Now, I could drive the 18 miles into town and boondock at an Interstate 40 truck stop for a night or two. There's actually a truck stop in Holbrook that I've stayed at two or three times in the past, and that might solve my problem.

I know a lot of RVers don't like to stay at truck stops, and often complain about how noisy they are, especially when the drivers keep their engines running all night. But my hearing is so poor that noise is seldom a problem for me, unless it's a barking dog or a running contractor generator.
