Part Two. ~ 2 comments.
Now, where was I ? Oh yeah, two battery banks.... I've rigged up the two battery banks so that either battery bank can be charged by either solar panel array or both solar arrays. I've learned that under the best conditions, either array will produce about 350 watts. The roof panel array is rated at 500 watts, but I've never seen it produce that much because it's shaded by various things on the roof. And since the ground-mounted panels can be oriented directly toward the sun, they always produce more electricity than the roof panels, even though there are only 400 watts.
I feel that this gives me the best chance of grabbing as much sunlight as possible, considering how small the Lance's roof is and the limited number of panels that will fit up there. Keeping in mind that my Arctic Fox fifth wheel had one more solar panel on its roof than I've got total right now, and each of those panels was 140 watts instead of the 100-watt panels on the Lance.
I ended up with two inverters; one is a 3000-watt inverter. It's currently hooked up, and the other is a 2300-watt inverter just sitting here, and I haven't figured out how I want to use it yet. So right now it's just a spare in case something happens to my other one.
If the weather forecasts are correct and Arizona does have a cloudy, rainy winter, it will be an excellent test of my new battery and solar system. But at the moment, whether all this is worth it remains to be seen.
