Kids can scare you to death.

I made it home in time for breakfast this morning, And it felt good to be back in civilization again.

I found my new headset waiting at the front door, so after I get it hooked up and working, I'll be able to dictate my blog post again, and no one will be happier about that than me.

The grandkids start back to school next week. So everything will change around here when that happens. I look at my grandson and can't believe he's going to be in junior high. It seems like only yesterday. He was just a little kid playing with toys. And now he's a bigger kid, still playing with toys ... But the toy he wants for his birthday is an electric scooter. Which scares me to death for a kid his age. But what can you do? The older they get The more things they do that scare you to death.

My youngest son and I walked over to this aspen forest in the National Forest next to my property. Aspens don't live very long, only about a hundred years. Then they get old, and the wind usually blows them over, which is why an old Aspen forest looks like this: blown-over trees lying in every direction.

Blowdowns make for some tough walking. But I enjoy going places most folks never go.

In the middle of the Aspen forest is a small spring. The spring and the pond around it used to be much bigger and ran out of the National Forest through my property. But now it barely runs at all. It looks like a mud hole, but the water is actually clear as a bell and cold as ice.

We wandered through the fallen trees, keeping an eye out for trees ready to fall.

Soon, we were out of the Aspen Forest and back in open country, just 100 yards or so from where I’m boondocked in my teeny-tiny home.
