First day of school. ~ 4 comments.

Even though I've removed the most stressful things from my summer life, I still have to deal with the DMV, to renew my driver's license, get my hearing aids fitted next month, my annual doctor's visit in September, and, worst of all, my 80th birthday next month.

As I mentioned in my blog, turning 80 means I can no longer call myself late middle-aged; I will be, without a doubt, and unequivocally old! Elderly, decrepit, antiquated, over the hill, and any other adjectives that accurately describe an ancient geezer such as myself. And the only bright spot I can think of is Barney the old fat man, is older than I am.... Only by one month, but still older than me.

I was at the family house this morning to take pictures of the grandkids getting ready for their first day of school. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I only got pictures of my granddaughter, but that early in the morning, I'm lucky I could get any pictures at all.

I'm going to miss being around the kids all day, but that's what happens when they're growing up and depend on teachers for their education more than their family members. I guess I've taught them all I know, such as how to whistle, what my favorite songs are from the 1960s, how to take a nap with my eyes open so people think I'm still awake, and how to grab my back and yell "DANGED BACK" every time I stand up.

I've imparted all the knowledge I have as a grandparent, so my job is done; I now leave it up to the educated teachers to teach them things I never learned, such as how to diagram a sentence, how to properly pronounce the "Caribbean Sea," and how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
