Not looking good for a mini-vacation.
The 10-day weather forecast looks very Fall-like: temperatures are expected to be in the mid-70s, with a couple of days in the 80s and lows in the 50s and 60s. Not Fall yet, but it's getting there.
Even though I've still got a couple of appointments to go to this summer, this change in the weather and the days getting shorter are starting to put me in a traveling mood, and I can hear the warm deserts and the mighty Saguaros whispering my name.
I don't know if I'll be taking any mini-vacations this summer, other than possibly another trip out to Pete's. Diesel fuel has become so expensive that I can't afford to go driving hither and thither any more like I used to, unless hither and thither get a lot closer together.
I've been thinking more about going through New Mexico if I can do it cheaply enough, like I've been talking about for the last couple of days. Boondocking doesn't have to be free for me to stay there. I've set a rule for myself that $10 is a fair price to pay for a night of boondocking, and I've stayed in places like Tombstone, Arizona, where boondocking right next to Main Street is $10 a night, and I believe that's completely fair. And I don't mind paying a little more if there's something special about the place. But I find these folks charging $20 and $30 a night to boondock as insulting, and I refuse to participate.
