Do I get lonely?
Do I get lonely? That's a good question and Sometimes, I wonder about that myself. Due to my rapidly advancing years and my unsteady march towards geezerdom, I often read things on the Internet about getting old and how to avoid it, and it appears that despite all the advances of modern technology and the never-ending flow of high-tech drugs... You can't.
But that doesn't stop all the pseudo-Internet MDs in white coats, despite the fact that most of them are dentists, chiropractors, and pharmacists, from posting on their websites about everything you're doing to speed up the dying process, and for the mere price of a cup of coffee, they will divulge their secrets on how to live forever. And apparently, one of the major ways we geezers are expiring way before our time is that we're too lonely, and being lonely is a sure way to speed up the whole "dirt-nap" process. And hearing that made me wonder whether the old boondork is lonely or not.
It seems to me that being lonely is a state of mind and has little to do with how many people you surround yourself with. I, for instance, would appear to be a very lonely person, but inside my head, I truly enjoy being alone and prefer to do things by myself, and try not to trade my freedom to come and go as I please in an effort to fit in with the people around me. So I don't see myself as someone who's lonely; I see myself as someone who designed and built a lifestyle around exactly how I want to live. And how can you feel lonely if you're living exactly the way you want to live?
Now, will you live longer if you're around other people? Maybe, but I feel I will live longer if I'm happy, and who wants to live a long time if you’re unhappy?
