The way it used to be.
When I'm not doing anything of interest, I sometimes harken back to the old days when life seemed so much simpler than it is today.......….
1.… I remember when my high school library had a magazine rack, and among other magazines, a couple of gun magazines were on the shelf. A lot of us read them, and even though most of us kids already had guns, I don't recall any of us having the desire to shoot anyone.... Except, of course, the criminals that were slowly taking over Miami.
2 .… Beatle boots were very popular when I was in high school, or maybe it was junior high, I can't remember. They were a medium-cut boot with a zipper up the side, and they replaced my penny loafers as soon as I could save up enough money to buy them.
3 .… And speaking of saving up enough money, I was well aware by elementary school that my dad's Air Force pay was barely enough to keep us alive, and certainly not enough to pay for the spending whims of a young boy, so I learned from a fairly young age that my parents weren't rolling in dough and hiding it from us kids.... They simply didn't have it to give.
4 .… So, how did I save up any money? I helped my best friend George deliver newspapers on his paper route. And did something you don't see anymore, which was look for empty Coca-Cola bottles people threw away, and return them to the grocery store for a penny or two each.
5 .… I remember camping in the backyard was popular when I was 10 or 12 years old. Most of us were in the Cub Scouts, and camping was something you were supposed to do. We had no camping equipment, so we would just build a campfire in the backyard, and when the fire died out, we would wrap up in blankets and shiver all night until the sun came up..... I can't believe we used to call that "fun."

I don't get very many pink sunsets, but when I do, it's always appreciated.
