When you're old, time flies. ~ 4 comments

A philosophical thought. Here's a statement I make every now and then, mostly because it's true, but also because I can't believe how true it is....... "Time is flying by so quickly, months are like weeks, and weeks are like days." I believe I've also said that ....." if I can't somehow find a way to make this wonderful life I'm living miserable, it will soon be over."

I don't know why it's that way when you're old, but it seems like most folks feel that way. It's probably because of the old saying, "time flies when you're having fun," but there must be more to it than that. When I'm sitting here in the camper, not doing anything, I wouldn't call it fun; it's more like just watching time go by, but it still flies by so quickly that even doing something boring is over before I know it.

I've even tried concentrating on things that I need to do but don't want to do, and even that goes by quickly. It's like most of my life was spent slowly trudging up a steep hill that seemed like it would never end, and now I've made it to the top of that miserable hill, and I'm sliding down the other side so fast that everything is an effortless, enjoyable blur, and I'll be at the bottom of the hill in no time.... And we all know what's waiting at the bottom of the hill.

It sure would be better if we could have 50 or 60 years of boundless joy and then 10 or 20 years of struggle, but life doesn't seem to work that way, at least not for me. It seems that when you reach a point where you have a bit of freedom and happiness in life, you can depend on it ending soon.

I suppose the solution could be to find happiness and enjoyment in life, no matter what life throws at you, but the problem seems to be that by the time you figure that out, it's too late. So the best you can do is pass that information along to your kids and hope that just this once, they actually listen to you.

The high country is barely visible in the background, taken from my boondocking spot at Pete's. You can see a little bit of snow on the mountains, but not very much, because they didn't get very much last winter.
