Reimagining my immediate future
Sunday night looks better for seeing the Milky Way. Not only is there a new moon today, but the clouds that were predicted have disappeared from the forecast, leaving the only hurdle getting out of bed at 3 o'clock in the morning.
Since my sleeping schedule will be messed up Sunday night, I think I will leave the City of Rocks on Tuesday instead of Monday morning. It's only a two-hour drive to Elephant Butte State Park from the City of Rocks, but I'll probably enjoy the drive more if I've had a good night's sleep previously.
It will be interesting to see what sort of surprises await me at Elephant Butte State Park. Most places I used to stay at Elephant Butte had picnic tables, but last year, that used to be primitive camping, and now, who knows? Camping on the beach will obviously be primitive, but I don’t enjoy camping there. Will I still be able to boondock in the overflow parking areas; those are some of my favorite places?
I don't know who to ask questions like that. I've never seen a campground host at Elephant Butte State Park, and seeing a Ranger is pretty rare. In fact, the only official person I've interacted with in several years is at the park's entrance, where you pay your fees. And as far as I know, they don't have a visitor center at Elephant Butte.

I took a few landscape pictures while walking around the City of Rocks this morning.
