A loner with a one-track mind or just lazy?

It looks like six of the next ten days are going to be 80 degrees or better in the long-range weather forecast. It doesn't look like winter weather can get any better than that.

I gave myself a choice this morning: I could go into town and do some shopping, or I could go for a walk in the desert. And since I always prefer being alone, I made the correct decision to grab my camera and head out into the surrounding desert. The skies were blue, the temperature was mild, and the humidity was hardly measurable.....A perfect time to go for a walk in the Sonoran Desert.

As I've mentioned in the past, I don't like going for a walk just for the sake of walking; I find it boring, and if it wasn't for being able to take some pictures, even though it's good exercise, I would seldom go for a walk. But I find the desert interesting, challenging, and often times, beautiful. So I don't mind walking in the desert even if I don't take any pictures.

But my desert walk didn't get me out of going into town; it just postponed it, and put me in the position of probably having to go to town on the weekend when it will be much more crowded. But I'll see, maybe I can put off going into town until Monday. That way, I'll be so short of necessities that I won't be able to put off going shopping any longer, and I can get it over with.....As you can probably tell, being a loner with a one-track mind can sometimes be a difficult way to live, or even mistaken for laziness.

There are two easy ways of walking through the desert:

The dry washes that meander through the desert, created by the infrequent but powerful rainstorms that often come through during the monsoons of late summer.

Or the cow-paths that crisscross the desert made by the wandering cattle that graze on these public lands. Cattle only take the easy way to get anywhere, much like me.

As I walked up this hill, I noticed a headless Saguaro cactus raising its arms to the heavens like a Baptist preacher during Sunday services …I wonder if that means something?
