Still kinda empty
Now that it's the weekend, and I would assume the busiest time of the week, I can report again that there were very few people here. Maybe folks are figuring they’re going to come to City of Rocks during the Thanksgiving holidays, so they didn't want to come here this weekend. Or maybe they had some other reason, but whatever it is, City of Rocks State Park is largely empty.
If I weren’t already hunkered down for the holidays, I would be looking for someplace to stay tomorrow. But I'm thinking this is a good place to be, because to me, City of Rocks doesn't seem like a place where folks would come to celebrate Thanksgiving. I'm not sure why it feels that way to me, but I would think a Park with a lake where families could eat Thanksgiving dinner on a picnic table next to the lake makes more sense than having a picnic table in the rocks. And since the nearest town is 30 miles away, this just doesn't seem like a good place for families to get together for a holiday that requires eating.
So, I'm hoping it won't get too crowded around here for the holidays, and the noisy, rowdy crowds will be a someplace with a lake like Elephant Butte.
