Chatfield State Park

There was a tornado or two yesterday afternoon, but all of them were out in the plains east of Denver, which is a pretty normal place to find tornadoes. Fortunately, they don't often come to the foothills where I'm staying. But east of Denver is mostly prairie, much like Oklahoma and Kansas, and those places seem to attract tornadoes like magnets.

This morning, I moseyed down the road to Chatfield State Park, did a little walking, and took a few pictures. So, at least now I have some current pictures to show.

Chatfield State Park is a nice place to visit, but it’s still a little chilly this time of year to do any water stuff as far as I'm concerned, except fishing, and a little chilly weather is not gonna stop a real fisherman. I no longer consider myself a real fisherman, even though I used to be one. In Florida, I would split my time between fishing and skin diving. If the tides were right for fishing, I would fish. But if nothing were biting, I would grab my trusty spear gun and go underwater looking for whatever was tasty.

Of course, that all stopped when I got to Colorado, I fished a little, and taught my sons to fish, but to me, it just wasn't the same. There were no tides, the fish I caught in Colorado were the size of the bait I used in Florida, and in Colorado, they don't like people chasing trout around with a spear gun.

Theboondork..... Colorado's got a lot of things going for it, but big fish ain't one of them.

The entrance to Chatfield State Park. These state Park entrances, especially in Colorado, are where they take your money, your joy, and your soul. just to use the land that belongs to all the people.

The swim beach, bathhouse, and restrooms are on the left. That long brown line cutting through the middle of the picture is the 2 ½ mile-long earthen dam that creates Chatfield reservoir.

Close-up of the shark fence that keeps the sharks away from the swimmers. Of course, it won’t save you from the alligators; they crawl right over it.

Chatfield State Park is a pretty place, with lots of hills around, and of course, a lot of water.
