day four, and I’m still at Pete’s
The weather's been beautiful since I've been at Pete's. 70s in the daytime, 40s at night, humidity in the teens, it's just about perfect for me. It clouded up late yesterday afternoon, which is great because I was finally able to get some sunset pictures.
I'm noticing more and more that my poor old laptop is just not cutting the mustard anymore. My Asus 18-inch laptop handles most tasks pretty well, but I'm experiencing slow performance with Lightroom, which I use to edit my pictures, and it's getting slower. It's not really the computers fault, most cameras produce pictures that are twice the size of the images from just a few years ago, and my computer, even though it was cutting-edge eight years ago, it's now trying to deal with huge image files and it just doesn't have enough RAM, and hard drive speed that the new SSD hard drives have today.
The solution is simple, but expensive, and involves buying a new computer. I'll probably keep putting that off until I get ready to leave for the winter, since then I'll have plenty of time to switch computers and get the new one up to speed. The old computer still does everything I need, but it's so slow that it takes the fun out of working on my pictures. And don't get me started on trying to make a video. Even the simple videos I've been making take forever to do.
