So near, yet so far away
It was a warm day today, with temperatures creeping into the low 90s, and the clouds kept the humidity in the 30% range, which made it feel worse than it actually was. And it looks like the 10-day forecast is going to be hot, cloudy, and a decent chance of rain almost every day. That sounds more like the Gulf Coast to me than the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Looking to the West, I can see the mountains over there, and know that the temperatures are probably in the 70s if I could just get up there. Oh well, the mountains aren't going anywhere, not anytime soon, anyway. I'll get up there eventually.
I was supposed to get a call from the VA audiologist to set up an appointment to check my hearing, or what there is of it, but I haven't heard anything from them, which is not surprising since I can't hear much of anything anyway. So it looks like I'll have to take the bull by the horns, or by the ears as the case may be, and set up an appointment myself.
I know I need hearing aids because I've tried getting everyone to talk louder, but so far, that hasn't worked. So, now I nod my head as if I'm agreeing with what everybody says, which generally works out better than not agreeing. However, I do end up eating a lot of Brussels sprouts, which I dislike, and I'm now the Best Man at a stranger's wedding.

Due to the hilly terrain, many of the houses in Cripple Creek are not built at street level; instead, they are usually higher than the street or far below it.
The American Legion Hall in Cripple Creek is about 100 years old and still in use.
This is the original Cripple Creek High School. It has since been converted into a hotel because there are not enough high school students in Cripple Creek to form a normal football team.
A story I liked to tell when I was in business in Cripple Creek is that the Cripple Creek school was so small while I was there, it had a six-man football team and played against other small schools in the area that also had six-man football teams. And as unbelievable as it may sound, one of the schools that Cripple Creek played against and frequently lost to was the Colorado Springs team from the School for the Deaf and Blind.
I know this is true because half the kids at Cripple Creek High School worked at my restaurants at one time or another, and they would tell me what happened at last night's game.
