Home is where you Park it

I have an appointment at the VA clinic tomorrow morning, and I'm supposed to be there at 8:45. This would put me on a very busy Highway at the height of rush hour. Therefore, I will probably leave at 6 AM to arrive early. It's about a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, and morning traffic is usually heavy.

Fortunately for me my Lance truck camper truly is at home where ever I park it, so when I get to an appointment early like that, I hop in the camper, turn on my computer, make a cup of coffee, and it doesn't matter if I'm in my daughter's driveway, at a state Park in New Mexico, camped on the beach in Texas, or in the parking lot of a doctor's office.... I'm home and surrounded by everything I need to feel at home in my teeny tiny house with wheels.

When I lived a normal life, in a house that was permanently attached to the ground, I always considered home a place to live, a place to come back to, and a place that was left behind. So, it takes some rethinking or reimagining to come to the realization that if you're a full-timer, your home is wherever your RV happens to be. However, in most cases, you don't have your RV with you all the time; it's left at a campsite somewhere. But when you're transportation, and your home is the same, such as a van, a truck camper, or in some cases a Class C, home is truly wherever you park it.

Do I miss not having a place to call home? Not in the least. I have a legal residence in Colorado, where I receive my mail, which I must have because the law requires it. However, I prefer having a home that has wheels, as it takes me to interesting and beautiful places. It brings me to areas where the sun is shining, and the weather is warm. It travels to the Gulf of America, and the Saguaros of the Sonoran Desert, it accompanies me to historic places in the Old West, and most of all, it can take me to the family I love, no matter where they are.
