Time to think about hunkering down. ~ 2 comments.

It’s getting close enough that I'm starting to think about what to do for the Christmas and New Year's holidays. They're close enough together that I can probably figure on one hunkering-down spot to cover both holidays.

I would like to hunker down someplace where I can stay for free, but that's not mandatory if I can boondock for $10 or less, which means that Tombstone could be in the mix, but probably not, because that would be almost a month of staying in Tombstone. But a place like Ajo, Arizona, would be a good choice, as would Yuma, staying at the VFW boondocking area, and of course Quartzsite, which is always a top choice for me. The most important thing right now is that I prefer to stay in southern Arizona instead of getting up north in the Phoenix area.

The downside of Ajo is that everything in town is very expensive, groceries and diesel are very costly in Ajo, and there's no Walmart anywhere near the town.

Yuma, Arizona, doesn't have that problem, but it's a very popular place to boondock. The VFW boondocking area is usually pretty crowded, because it's kind of a smallish area. And as you know, I don't like crowds.

What can you say about Quartzsite? Other than it's about 30 miles to a Walmart, there's not much else wrong with Quartzsite, and I will end up there sooner or later. I'm just not sure if that would be for the Christmas holidays.

I'm planning on spending about a week in Tombstone when I get back there, which means I'll have about two weeks to hunker down during the holidays.

What I really miss is being able to boondock at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tucson, Arizona. It cost me $12 a night, which is reasonable. Wal-Mart was just down the road, and my favorite place to eat, Popeye's Cajun Kitchen, was only a couple of miles away. And best of all, there was always some kind of event going on, whether it was a rodeo, dog show, barrel racing, gun show, or even a nearby drag strip. There was always something to entertain me..... I really miss that place.
