I made a boo boo.

Driving from Lake Havasu back to Quartzsite on a Friday morning, like I did yesterday, was not a great idea, but for some reason, I failed to put the pieces together of what was going on and why I should have stayed in Lake Havasu for another day or so.

I'm fully aware there's only one highway that goes from Quartzsite to Parker, and then on to Lake Havasu, which is Highway 95, and for most of its way, it's a two-lane blacktop.

I also knew that there was a big Volkswagen van rally in Lake Havasu this weekend, where there were supposed to be over 600 VW vans showing up and camping at a State Park in Havasu.

I was also aware that in Parker, Arizona, this weekend, there's an annual off-road race called The Parker 400, for cars, trucks, and motorcycles that goes on for days and packs the town.

And lastly, I was very familiar with the Big Show in Quartzsite that started this weekend. And all the slow-moving RVs that were waddling up and down Highway 95 towards "Q".

Where I messed up was not mentally putting all those happenings together in a way that would make my brain scream..... DON'T GO ANYWHERE ON HIGHWAY 95 ON FRIDAY MORNING !!! And by the time I had worked my way through Havasu, it became readily apparent that I had committed a huge boo-boo.

Was the road crowded? Crowded doesn't begin to properly describe it. In fact, no one word could fully describe it. Was the traffic slow-moving? Picture an underpowered class C pulling a trailer and a toad up a steep mountain road.... What would you think? But was it dangerous?? Imagine a 90-year-old Geezer behind the wheel of a giant RV going 30 miles an hour while professional race-car drivers are backing up behind him on two-lane highway 95 trying to get to Parker before race check-in time....

But Boondork? You can't possibly be saying that these thousand-horsepower racing trucks are out on the public highway? Well, yes, I am, apparently, if they've got lights and a tag, they can drive on the road. And it behooves us, normal folks, to stay home or get the heck out of the way……I shoulda stayed home
