I am so lucky.

I was considering heading towards Phoenix and checking out some boondocking areas, but I don't like traveling on a Sunday because of the difficulty of getting a tow truck and a repair facility for my truck if it should need it. It's a shame that my poor old truck isn't as reliable as it used to be, but such is life. I've now had more maintenance done to me than my truck has, so neither one of us can be completely trusted to make it to our destination. Knowing that, I try to keep my destinations fairly close to civilization so both me and my truck will have at least a chance of eventually getting to where we’re going.

As I started thinking about a new boondocking area, it made me think about how lucky I am being able to comfortably deal with losing a major boondocking area near Ben Avery gun range which I had built numerous plans around, and then be able to return to Wickenburg and spend an enjoyable four or five days boondocking as if nothing had happened, and all of that was made possible by the freedom I enjoy. The freedom from agendas, schedules, appointments, itineraries, goals, obligations, and yes, even plans...... I am so unbelievably fortunate.

This giant 8-foot-long lizard of death silently sprang onto a boulder directly ahead of me, with the threat of "come no further, this is my home, and I tolerate no one." Needless to say, I assumed a nonthreatening pose as if to say, " Harm me not, O lizard of death, I am but a harmless boondork and I will take my leave on the morrow." To which the giant lizard of death crawled back under his rock as if to say, "Go away, weirdo, you talk funny and look like a homeless bum."

As I walked around the county boondocking area in Wickenburg, I kept seeing patches of yellow flowers everywhere, and a closer inspection showed them to be Mexican Poppies, which surprised me because I thought they only bloomed in the spring. Oh well, it seems I learn something new every day.

Mexican Poppies, it appears they can bloom in the winter.
