The aftermath

So, how are things going now that my first operation is over, and how am I dealing with it?

The operation on my left eye will be on October 2, and because of the hassles I'm dealing with now, most of them will be gone after my second operation, so I can’t wait till October 2; it can't get here fast enough.

First of all, everything is going great. My checkup the day after the operation showed that I'm healing quickly and there are no problems. When I got home after the operation, and that night, I had no pain, but sometimes I could feel a little bit of burning in my eye, which would go away in a few minutes, and sometimes my eye would feel like there was something in it, irritating it, but that too didn't last very long. By the second day of my operation, even those irritations had subsided, and my eye felt normal.

The doctor administered an eye test to me the day after the operation, and my vision was excellent. It's not a perfect 2020 yet, but it's good enough that I could drive without glasses if I needed to in an emergency. The doctor assures me that it will improve over the next couple of weeks. The first day back home, I could see halos around bright lights, but by the second day, that effect had gone, and most everything looked normal.

So how about those eyedrops? I have two different eyedrops that I need to administer four times a day, but instead of thinking about the times to put the drops in, I put them in before every meal and at bedtime. Putting in the eyedrops is annoying; I'm not very good at it, and my aim is terrible. I've got eyedrops running down my cheek, eyedrops in my eyebrows, in fact, just about everywhere except my eye, but I'm getting better. I hope I get the hang of it before I run out of eyedrops.

However, my biggest problem is my glasses... I can't see with them, and I can't see without them. My new eye doesn't focus very well on the computer screen, but anything past that is just fine, and my old eye needs glasses to see up close. When I take off my glasses, I see double, which makes walking around or looking at the computer rather difficult. So now I mostly walk around and use the computer by closing one eye.

But I'll make do until my next operation on October 2, when hopefully my eye problems will be sorted out and I can get my life back to normal.

Sorry about my lack of pictures today, but it’s a struggle trying to see images clearly when I’m seeing double. Lucky for me, I don’t have to type my blog; I speak into my typing software, it’s called “Dragon Speaking,’’ and it’s the only reason I’m able to write a blog every day. If I had to revert to my hunt, hunt, hunt, and peck method, just typing it would take all day.
