Where will I spend the night tonight?

It was quite chilly last night; the temperature dropped to 43°, which necessitated an extra blanket on my bed. However, I prefer it chilly at night; I sleep much better when it's cool. I'm very fortunate that the places I stay are sometimes quite hot during the day, but they're almost always cool at night.

Many people are leaving Cripple Creek now that the festivities are over, as they have to return to work. So, I'm thinking of leaving Cripple Creek this morning, spending a night on the road, and getting back to my family on Tuesday.

I'm not sure where I'll stay, but I'm leaning towards going to my property near 11 Mile Reservoir and spending the night there. I haven't been there for a while, in fact, the last time I was there it was the time of the horrendous mosquito invasion that kinda has me freaked out about going out there again. It brought back too many bad memories of fishing in the Everglades and dealing with the hordes of swamp mosquitoes that infest the glades. But I'll figure out what to do, I usually figure it out at the last minute anyway. However, please note that I have no phone or Internet service at my property, so I won’t be able to upload a blog post if that’s where I decide to go.

I haven't cut any of the grass on my lot, nor do I intend to. The way the lot is shaped, it would be difficult to cut with a sling blade, so I'll probably get my youngest son to come up here and let him do it with a lawnmower and weed eater. Fortunately, I never took my brand-new Sling Blade out of the Amazon box it came in, so I'll be returning that once I get back to civilization.

Last night, the much-respected commenter Judith correctly identified the mystery of my blog as the picture of the Sandhill cranes at the bottom of my blog. Although it's an image, if you look at it long enough, the Sandhill cranes appear to be flying. Needless to say, I was amazed that anyone figured it out.

PS……I was on my way out to my property this morning, but the weather was to cloudy and rainy so I wimped out and went down to Colorado Springs and stayed at the Bass Pro shop parking lot

Bass Pro Shop is full of mounted animal scenes.

There are plenty of rods and reels, and aisles full of fishing tackle.

For the kids, there are plenty of toys that emphasize outdoor sports, such as hunting and fishing.

Adventure drinkware? This reminds me of all the adventure RVs and adventure motorcycles I see on the road. Adventure has become a word to sell products. In reality, real adventure involves some risk, not just driving on a dirt road occasionally. The word used to mean something, but it no longer does.

Here's another word used to sell products.... Extreme! Everything now has to be extreme, but what's extreme about a rod and reel? I've fished the flats for Bonefish, I've trolled the Gulfstream for Sailfish, and when I was a kid, I fished the reefs in a 13-foot Boston Whaler 7 miles from shore. And never once did I consider, or hear anyone else believe, that what we were doing was “extreme”! It's just another silly word used to sell products.
