I found a spot.
After breakfast this morning, I drove down the dirt road a ways looking for a better boondocking spot, and my criteria for "better" was.... .
1....A more open area, so the trees don't shade the roof solar panels as badly, and that's rather difficult to find in this heavily treed area.
2.... I need at least one direction I can look without seeing another RV. I know I'm not alone, but if I can look in at least one direction and see nature instead of an RV, it makes me feel better.
3.... A nicer view. Pretty views, oddly enough, are hard to come by around here, unless your idea of pretty is miles and miles of pine trees.
4....And it had to "feel" right..... I don't know how to quantify that last one, but years of experience have taught me to know it when I see it.
I found a spot that satisfied most of those expectations, so I settled in for an indeterminate length of time, probably early next week, when I will pack up and head east, where I plan to visit the Petrified Forest for the umpteenth time. It is an interesting place to be.
Theboondork.
They’re doing some logging in the National Forest, and two or three times a day, logging trucks go rumbling by my boondocking spot. I don't know how far away they're logging, but I haven't heard any chainsaws running.
I'm used to having a couple of hungry vultures circling around me when I'm standing outside….. but this is ridiculous.
Because of all the trees and hills around me, I've already figured out that seeing a pretty sunrise is a waste of time. And sunsets like this are only slightly better.
