More boring memories.
Today looks like a nice day to be at a Park somewhere. Low 80s, and sunny with a small chance of afternoon showers. And if you have to go running around somewhere today, it's probably a good day to do it, since everybody is most likely where they want to be, so I imagine traffic is pretty light.
I don't have any plans for tomorrow except to continue hunkering down. Traffic should reach epic proportions tomorrow afternoon as folks head out of the mountains and towards home, where they can briefly rest up from the busy holiday before going to work Tuesday morning.
I recall back in my younger days, when living in Miami, instead of heading for the mountains as they do around here, everyone headed for the Florida Keys, and there was basically one Highway that went the length of the Keys, which was US 1.
In those days, US 1 was mostly a two-lane highway through the Keys, and it was busy enough, especially on holidays, that it was difficult to pass anyone. And passing was very much needed because most of the cars were pulling boats or camping trailers, so it was slow going under the best of conditions, given how often rusty boat trailers break down, how often trailer tires go flat, and how hazardous people's decision-making can become after drinking way too much beer, while driving un-air-conditioned cars when the humidity and temperature both have the same number, and that number is 100.
In those days, I was working a job for a living, so I had to get out on the road and fight the traffic just like everyone else if I wanted to take advantage of the holiday, and I think that it may have been the horrors of driving US 1 during the holidays that have caused me, even today, to have such an aversion to going anywhere on a holiday.
Theboondork
A strange contraption on the back of this class "C". The big black box has a single caster wheel, which helps take the weight of the box off the class C, and since the wheel can swivel in every direction, they can easily back up without having the problems of backing up a normal trailer.
And speaking of blocking airflow, as I did in my blog yesterday, I'm not a big fan of putting a bicycle on the front of a vehicle. Engineers spend a lot of time and effort trying to get the most air through your vehicle's radiator, and anything that blocks or disrupts that flow can lead to overheating, including a bicycle. It doesn't block much air, but it disrupts it, sending some air away from the radiator.
Sunset at the gift shop across the street, where I boondocked for free.
A brief history of the Petrified Forest National Park
This critter is one of the reasons the Petrified Forest is a barren wasteland. He ate all of his neighbor critters, and when he ran out of them, he started eating tourists like me. When he ate all the tourists, he started eating the bushes and trees, and before long, there was nothing left but a barren desert and a handful of government employees that even this toothy critter wouldn't eat.
