Low Flow on the Ark.
Today was my granddaughter's last day of school, and it was only a half day. There were no ceremonies of any kind, since she's not leaving the elementary school, unlike her brother; she'll just move up a grade to the fourth grade next year.
The last two days have been kinda rainy and gloomy. Of course, no one around here is complaining about the rain since we need as much of it as we can get, and not just for our own benefit but for everyone downstream on the Colorado River, the Arkansas River, and especially the Rio Grande, which are badly in need of some rain, since the snow melt let us down.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about how pitiful the Arkansas River was with the lowest flow that I've ever seen, and I was just reading today that the "spring melt" is already over, so when I was looking at the Ark, it was already at its peak flow for the season, and the only thing that could improve it now would be mucho rain.
There are a lot of towns on the Arkansas that depend on summer tourists to keep them alive, such as towns you read about in my blog, Buena Vista, Salida, and Canyon City, and when the river rafters come from literally all over the world to raft these rivers, when the rivers no longer have enough flow to make the rapids exciting, folks just don't show up.... And neither does their money.
