New Year's Day, everything's closed.
As a way to celebrate the new year, I hung up my 2026 calendar this morning. As I mentioned before, I had to buy a calendar that's not as big as the ones I like and use every year, but I'm trying to get it to work. Its main problem is that I like to be able to read it from my normal sitting position, and this new calendar has very faint, small numbers that I can't read from my computer desk, which is where I most need to read it. I solved the problem temporarily by outlining the dates with a magic marker, so at least I can see the dates from a distance now. Maybe I can get this new calendar to work for me after all.
I remember back in the olden days BC [before computers], for weeks after the new year changed, I would still be writing the wrong date on my checks whenever I paid a bill, and now I can't remember the last time I wrote a check. In fact, my checkbook is so old it's got the wrong address on it. To quote Bob Dylan, "The times they are a-changin’," and all we old geezers can do is wave as it goes by.
I still haven't gone to the Walmart in Parker yet, and I didn't want to go today because a lot of things are closed, so I figure I'll go tomorrow.
I'm still limping around with half-charged batteries, but according to my 10-day weather forecasts, today and tomorrow are partly cloudy days, so I had some charging, but Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are predicted to be mostly cloudy..... So I just can't seem to catch a break.
I'll be glad when Monday gets here, and the solar panel shops open up so I can find out if they've got what I need to get me back to normal again. If they don't have what I need according to their advertising, they say they can order whatever I want, so if that's the case, I'm hoping it won't take too long.
It sure is strange having this much cloudy weather in the desert. I would expect this to happen in most places, especially in the winter, but it sure doesn't seem normal for the desert areas to me.

Another morning obscured by clouds.
My old truck is waiting for something to happen.
Some mornings, even with the thick clouds, the sky can be pretty, its just a matter of where the clouds are.
