In Tombstone once again. ~ 4 comments
Back in Tombstone again. I swear I've spent more time in Tombstone than Wyatt Earp. And, I'm probably going to be here for a week or so. And from here, I'll head for where I'm going to hunker down for the holidays. I haven't figured out where that will be yet, but I'm leaning towards Ajo, Arizona.
One of the problems with Ajo is that I really enjoy taking pictures of the Air Force jets practicing their bombing nearby, but they don't do that all the time, and the last time I was there last year, I never saw a single military airplane that was low enough to see without a telescope. Apparently, a lot of these fighter aircraft use what's called standoff munitions. Which can be fired at a target miles and miles away, so the airplanes can stay out of the danger zone and blow things up before anyone even knows they're there. And that's all well and good except I can't see anything except distant contrails in the sky, and that limits my picture taking to zero pictures, which is all I got last time I was there.
Without airplanes, there's not a whole lot for me to do. It's a nice little town that's got some pretty areas to take pictures of. And there are several different boondocking areas for my enjoyment. But as I said before, it's got a hometown grocery store and hometown gas stations, and the town is a long way from anywhere, so everything is expensive.
But boondocking is free, and the old rodeo grounds where I stay have no stay limit as far as I know. So Ajo has that going for it.
