Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. ~ 4 comments.

Yes, after giving it a lot of thought, I'm actually happy to be financially forced out of the New Mexico State Park system, and now have to find a different way, maybe even a better way, of living during my winter travels.

There is still boondocking in New Mexico that I can take advantage of, such as the Valley of Fires, where I was a couple of weeks ago. And the free boondocking in San Antonio, New Mexico, near the Bosque Del Apache, where I spent a night or two. And of course, various Wal-Marts where I've spent the night in New Mexico every once in a while. So it's not like there's no place to stay in New Mexico, it’s more like I don't want to, or can't, spend a week or two in those places.

So that leaves me with a couple of choices. I can either spend a night or two in New Mexico as I'm passing through on my way to Arizona, or I can find more new, interesting, and inexpensive places to stay in New Mexico.

I have to go through New Mexico to get to Arizona, but I don't have to stay at any state parks, so instead of staying at Storrie Lake State Park in New Mexico, I could spend the night in the Walmart parking lot just down the road from Storrie Lake. And the next night, stay in Grants, New Mexico, in the Walmart parking lot, and the next morning, I'll be in Arizona. I've done that many times back in the day before I became a full-timer.

And yes, I realize that it doesn't take two days to get to Arizona from Denver, Colorado. When my daughter lived in Phoenix, I would drive it in 12 hours. But I don't have to do that anymore, and I'm not in a hurry, so I consider driving 200 miles, a full day of driving....... but is there something else I can do???..... maybe.

Most plants of the desert are pointy in one way or another.

This is a rare, hard-to-find, and difficult-to-see, one-legged, one-eyed banded Pipsqueak. The Pipsqueaks are quite rare, and it's only my extreme knowledge of rare birds that allows me to identify a bird like this at all. With only one leg, they tend to fall off the bushes, and the one eye causes them to fly in circles most of the time, all of which makes it difficult to find food and impossible to eat it.
