Pictures

As you know, I've been trying to photograph the military jets flying over the bombing range on the outskirts of Ajo, but so far I haven't had much luck, and it doesn't appear that it will change anytime soon. It seems that the F-35s from Yuma will continue flying far, far away from me at extremely high altitudes. At almost supersonic speeds

There's not much to do in Ajo, so I haven't given up completely in the brief time I have left at Ajo to get a decent picture of the jets. So I keep my camera set up with my biggest lens, which is an 800mm Canon lens, pointed toward the Barry M. Goldwater bombing range, on a tripod just outside my door. I have to stay set up and ready like that because the F-35s fly so fast, I don't have much time to find the plane in the vast sky overhead.

In fact, I never see the plane at all; I take a picture of the end of the contrail, if one exists, and assume there's a plane near it.

So I was cooking breakfast the other morning, and had my camera set up outside the door as usual, when I heard a really loud engine roar, much louder than the normal engine roar from an F-35. So I stuck my head out the door, and there were two F-35s lower than I have ever seen. they were maybe a thousand feet above me, and moving away very fast.... I jumped out the door, grabbed my camera on its tripod, swung it around toward the planes, and started trying to find them in the sky.

A big lens works pretty well for finding something far-far away, Like the moon, but all but impossible to find things close up, and since those F-35s were only visible to me for about 10 seconds at the most, I never even came close to seeing them in my viewfinder ...... DRAT !!!

Will I ever get that chance again? I don't know. I never had that chance before, so I kinda doubt it.

My camera's set up, waiting for an airplane to fly by…. There's a lot of waiting.

not much going on in Ajo to take a picture of, so I'm having to use a picture of a bunch of cowboys from Tombstone.
